Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday confirmed the rumoured rift between him and President Muhammadu Buhari saying Buhari and the All Progressive Congress (APC) abandoned him after helping the party to win the 2015 general election.

The ex-VP’s outburst followed the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, public declaration that she will support his presidential quest in 2019 even if President Buhari decides to seek re-election.
Atiku, who spoke against the backdrop of reactions that trailed Alhassan’s statement, accused the leadership of the ruling APC of abandoning him, alleging he contributed in no small way to Buhari’s emergence as President.
He said from his home town in Yola, after the Eid-El-Kabir festival: “Honestly speaking, I’m still a member of the APC; I was part of all the processes, including campaigns until success was achieved.
“But sadly, soon after the formation of government; I was side-lined, I have no any relationship with the government, I’ve not been contacted even once to comment on anything and in turn, I maintained my distance. They used our money and influence to get to where they are but three years down the lane, this is where we are.”
