Claim by Dennis Amachree, a retired assistant director of the Department of State Services (DSS), that former Head of State, General Sani Abacha died while having sex has drawn reaction from Abacha’s former Chief Security Officer, Major Hamzat Al-Mustapha (rtd).
Abacha’s death in 1998 while he was the Head of State has been a subject of controversy in terms of how it happened, with rumour rife that he died from a poisoned apple allegedly given to him by prostitutes of India extraction.
Dennis Amachree in his new book wrote that the late dictator died during coitus, saying his death occurred while he was on top of a Nigerian lady pharmacist.
“The lady pharmacist on whom Abacha apparently had a coitus-induced cardiac arrest, remains the true position and puts an end to the conspiracy theories and half-truths that have gone viral,” Amachree wrote in the 348-page book titled DSS @ 40: My Journey Behind the Shield.
Reacting to the death context the retired DSS chief alleged in his book, Al-Mustapha dismissed it while speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the 3rd General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference in Kaduna.
The former CSO declared that the account given by Amachree in his book was a made-up story disguised as truth.
Boasting of having a CCTV footage of late Abacha’s last moments in his possession, Al-Mustapha had in the past
claimed that Abacha died from a handshake he had with a security guard of a visiting dignitary.
A few days before his demise on June 8, 1998, the dictator had received emissaries from then Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) leader, Yasser Arafat.
He also received Pope John Paul II who had visited Nigeria to plead for the release of detainees.
