The lawmaker representing Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Donald Ojogo, narrowly escaped death on Saturday after his convoy was involved in a road crash along the Ore-Ondo Road.
The crash involved three vehicles — two buses and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado believed to be part of the lawmaker’s convoy.
Although Ojogo escaped serious injury, some members of his entourage were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the accident.
He said 19 people were involved in the crash, comprising 15 males and four females.
According to him, two female commuters sustained severe injuries, while the other victims suffered minor injuries.
Ibitoye said preliminary findings indicated that wrongful overtaking and excessive speed contributed to the accident.
He said the injured victims were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The crash came shortly after Ojogo secured a return ticket to the National Assembly, where he is seeking to continue representing his constituency.
Reacting to the incident, Ibitoye warned motorists against reckless driving, urging them to exercise patience and adopt defensive driving techniques.
He particularly cautioned drivers against speeding and dangerous overtaking.
The sector commander warned that although speeding might appear thrilling, it could have deadly consequences, urging motorists to shun the practice and drive cautiously.
