The immediate-past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has called on his Kogi counterpart, Yahaya Bello, not to disgrace former governors.
Ortom made the charge on Sunday in respect of Bello’s current travails at a Redeemed Christian Church of God in Makurdi, Benue State during the thanksgiving service organised by his aides for his 63rd birthday celebration.
Bello has been in hiding running from arrest and prosecution over allegation of defrauding Kogi of N80.2bn while in the saddle of the state.
Weighing in on the matter, the ex-Benue governor said Bello’s approach to the issue is portraying former governors in bad light, urging the fugitive to turn himself in to security agencies.
Ortom also told of his efforts to make Bello see reason to toe the path of honour.
His words, “I want to use this opportunity to advise my younger brother and friend, Governor Yahaya Bello, not to disgrace former governors.
“You don’t need to hide. You don’t need to resist arrest or anything. Go there and respond. The EFCC (officials) are human beings. If they are making inquiries, the laws are there. I have tried to get him on the phone, but I could not. I have tried those around him but I could not, so I want this to be noted. Wherever he is, if he can hear me, thank God the press is here, he should come out.”
Ortom himself is facing investigation at the hands of the same Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
