The Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarrett Tenebe, has come under fire after allegedly threatening to kill Facebook users who criticised Governor Monday Okpebholo and commented on a post concerning the governor.
The latest controversy erupted after a Facebook user, Samuel Iyobosa, claimed that Okpebholo had travelled to Abuja to protest his alleged exclusion from the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
Tenebe reportedly reacted angrily to the post, warning Iyobosa that he would die if he continued spreading what the party chairman described as lies.
His response triggered a fresh round of exchanges with other Facebook users, including Baron Mike, who criticised Tenebe over his reaction.
Tenebe allegedly responded with another threat, telling Baron Mike that he would die for “talking rubbish” and challenging him to return to Nigeria and make his comments.
Another Facebook user, Nehizena Ogunrobo, was also allegedly subjected to a barrage of insults and threatening remarks from the APC chairman.
The exchanges have sparked outrage, with critics questioning the conduct of a senior political party official and accusing Tenebe of resorting to threats instead of responding to criticism with facts.
The controversy is particularly notable because it is not the first time Tenebe has been accused of issuing death threats against critics of Governor Okpebholo.
In February 2026, reports emerged that the then acting Edo APC chairman allegedly threatened a woman, Blessing Agho, after she criticised the governor on social media.
The alleged messages included warnings that death awaited her and a challenge for her to disclose her location.
That earlier incident also drew political backlash, with the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party calling for Tenebe to be investigated over the alleged threat.
The latest remarks have now renewed concerns about the increasingly heated exchanges between Nigerian politicians and their critics on social media.
Socio-accountability platform MonITNG described the latest alleged comments attributed to Tenebe as disturbing and unacceptable, arguing that political disagreements should be handled through dialogue rather than intimidation.
The group also urged the APC leadership to investigate the matter and ensure that its officials uphold standards expected of political leaders.
Ilevbaoje Imoukhuede of MonITNG similarly criticised Tenebe, saying the APC chairman’s alleged language was unbecoming of someone occupying such a position.
He argued that insults and threats could damage both Tenebe’s reputation and the public image of the APC.
The controversy comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with social media increasingly becoming a major battleground for supporters, opponents and political office holders.
Tenebe, who was elected substantive Edo APC chairman in May 2026 after previously serving in an acting capacity, is a key figure in the ruling party’s structure in the state.
As of the time of filing this report, no public statement from Tenebe was available explaining or denying the latest alleged comments.
