Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has fired a fresh salvo at Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo after the governor mocked his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, over his famous dancing style.
The singer, who has thrown his full weight behind Adeleke ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election, appeared to respond with a controversial post on his Instagram Stories on Friday.
Davido shared what appeared to be Governor Okpebholo’s West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result without adding any caption, but the move was widely seen as a direct reply to the Edo governor’s comments about Adeleke’s leadership and dancing habit.
The online clash erupted barely 24 hours after Okpebholo took a swipe at the Osun governor during a campaign rally for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
Speaking at the rally attended by Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, Okpebholo questioned Adeleke’s approach to governance, claiming the governor spent too much time dancing instead of focusing on his duties.
“Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance,” Okpebholo said.
The Edo governor’s remarks quickly sparked reactions online, with supporters of Adeleke accusing him of ridiculing the Osun governor’s personality rather than focusing on political issues.
Okpebholo also stirred controversy during the campaign when he urged voters to accept money offered by political opponents but still vote for the APC candidate during the election.
Davido, who has become one of Adeleke’s biggest campaign supporters, has been actively involved in the Osun election race.
The singer has attended campaign events, mobilised support for his uncle and called for a peaceful, credible and transparent election.
The latest exchange has added more heat to the already charged political atmosphere ahead of the Osun governorship poll, turning the contest into not just a battle of parties but also a clash of personalities and online influence.
