Members of the House of Representatives have given reason for the non-implementation of the resolution they made to slash their salaries by 50 per cent for the next six months.

By common consent the federal lawmakers on July 18 resolved to receive half of their salary monthly for six months while the remaining is to be used by government to alleviate poverty.

The resolution which was made to also make the hunger protest to be suspended then failed to come into effect from scheduled July salary.

This, the House spokesman, Rotimi Akin blamed on bureaucracy in a statement he released in which he pledged the commitment of the Green Chamber to the decision.

“The House of Representatives remains committed to the resolution passed on July 18, which mandates a 50 per cent reduction in the salaries of honourable members for the period from July to December 2024.

“We acknowledge and regret that this resolution was not implemented by the bureaucracy as intended for the month of July,” he said.
