President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said he once considered shunning newpapers and broadcast media in the early days of his administration due to backlash.
Tinubu made this known at the weekend in Katsina during an official visit to the state.
The President recounted his early days in office saying due to widespread criticism of the unintended ill consequences of his administration’s policies that gave rise to prevalent-untold hardship he almost stayed away from news media.
“When we started, it was challenging, and I almost ran away from watching or reading the newspapers,” the president said. “I got discouraged but stayed put on my decisions, believing that the ability of a leader to take decisions at the right time is the hallmark of leadership,” he said.
He added that the economy has now turned the corner: “Nigeria is a success, the economy is turning around, it has bent the corner.”
