The Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule has been accused of having an ulterior motive in the bid of the House to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Recall that Amaewhule-led Assembly is in the process of impeaching Fubara alleging the governor of series of official misconducts.
The deputy governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu is also in the same boat with the governor.
The Ijaw National Congress, INC, said the State Assembly Speaker’s pursuit of the impeachment was not for the common good but allegedly for selfish ends.
INC President Prof. Benjamin Okaba declared this in an interview with Punchng where he claimed Amaewhule’s aim was to reap from Fubara’s removal by being made the governor.
“Somebody is desperate to be governor by all means and therefore orchestrating impeachment. The Speaker should be told: when your time comes, contest; not to rubbish a system to become governor from the backdoor,” Okaba told the publication.
“There is public outcry against them within and outside Rivers State because it is obvious that this is a clear case of vendetta using the instrumentality of impeachment.
“It is not about the growth of democracy and development; it is all about personal interest above the interest of the state,” he was also quoted as saying.
