A bereaved husband has cried for help after his in-laws insisted that he must marry the remains of his late wife before he is allowed to bury her.
Mr. Adejo Emmanuel had lost his wife, and mother of his six children, Margaret, on December 21, 2015 immediately she was delivered of twins in Owo, Ondo State.
The peasant farmer who is in his mid-50s and hails from Igala in Kogi State did not perform the customary marriage rite of Akenze in Ebonyi State where his late wife hailed from while she was alive due to economic crisis.
A failure that does not suit his in-laws. Even in death, and mourning their daughter, Emmanuel told the The Nation that they want him to pay her bride price of N350,000 before he is allowed to bury her.
He said: “The family of my late wife have asked me to come and do marriage ceremonies with my late wife and come up with the sum of 350,000 naira before anything could even take off.
“Where would I get the money from? I am confused. They should pity my condition and understand that I’m still taking care of her four children. Three of them are in secondary school, not to talk of the twins.”
