The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the hearing of the suit seeking the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and the Action Peoples Party (APP).

Earlier scheduled for yesterday, Monday, the proceedings did not hold due to presiding judge’s absence.

However, the court premises was jam-packed with lawyers from affected parties and faithful.

The plaintiff is the National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL).

Speaking to journalists after the postponed session, the lead counsel for the NFFL, Yakubu Ruba (SAN), explained that the suit was seeking constitutional interpretation.

“The suit filed by the NFFL seeks the court’s interpretation of the Constitution and aims to further expound Nigeria’s electoral jurisprudence,” he said.

Recall that the NFFL, a public interest group, instituted the suit in December 2025, challenging the continued recognition of the affected political parties over alleged failure to meet the constitutional threshold required for their existence.

The Forum has maintained that the legal action is geared towards enriching and strengthening Nigeria’s electoral jurisprudence, describing the case as a crucial step toward promoting adherence to the rule of law and ensuring a more credible and functional political system in the country.

The hearing has been rescheduled to February 24, 2026.
