The Upper Chamber’s order followed the adoption of a motion Senator Theodore Orji sponsored.
Titled, “Anti-malaria drugs banned by European Union, still being sold and consumed in Nigeria; the need for Senate to investigate,” Orji explained that the drugs which contain substances like plasmotrin, artequin, co-arinate, arco, artecon and dialquin, were banned in EU because they cause kidney failure.
The senator representing Abia central senatorial district alleged that they are still being stockpiled, sold and consumed in Nigeria.
The President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Prof. Mike Ogirima, confirmed the delisting of the dangerous drugs by EU.
