A man in his early 30s, identified simply as Abiodun, has died after allegedly drinking insecticide following a heated argument with his longtime girlfriend in the Idimu area of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly happened on Saturday evening in the Ire Akari area after the woman allegedly announced that she was no longer interested in continuing their relationship.
Abiodun was said to have been arguing with his girlfriend when she made her decision to end the relationship and subsequently left the house.
However, shortly after her departure, he reportedly drank the contents of an insecticide container he was holding.
A resident said neighbours rushed him to a hospital along Powerline Road, where he later died despite efforts to save him.
His mother, who works at a supermarket in the area, was reportedly alerted and made frantic efforts to secure medical attention for her son.
According to the resident, she tried to raise money for the recommended drugs and other medical expenses after neighbours had taken him to the hospital.
Sadly, when she returned with the drugs on Sunday morning, she was informed that Abiodun had died.
The resident added that the deceased was buried on Monday, while the whereabouts of his girlfriend remained unknown after the incident.
