Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) said the country will embark on exportation of refined petroleum by the end of this year.
From the time immemorial despite blessed with land flowing with oil deposits, Nigeria is short on refining the natural resources.
This makes the country to sell the raw materials abroad and import the finished petroleum products.
The trend as per NNPCL Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mele Kyari, by the end of this year will be a thing of the past.
Kyari said this when he appeared before the National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance,
He stated that apart from Dangote refinery that is about to begin oil production, Port Harcourt Refinery is gearing up to begin same next month while the Warri and Kaduna refineries will follow suit by December.
“This country will be a net exporter of petroleum products by the end of this year. We’re very optimistic that by December, this country will be a net exporter.
“That means a combination of production coming from us, and also from Dangote refinery and other smaller producing companies are in line to do this.
“So, I can confirm to you, Mr. Chairman, that by the end of the year, this country will be a net exporter of petroleum products,” he said.
