The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a free and easy way for Nigerians to download their National Identification Number (NIN) slips directly to their mobile phones without visiting its offices or paying agents.
The commission said the service is available through its NINAuth mobile application, allowing NIN holders to obtain their official identification documents with just a few steps.
In a video shared on its official X account on Wednesday, NIMC demonstrated how Nigerians can access and download the document using the application.
To get the slip, users are required to download the NINAuth application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and open it on their mobile phones.
They should then click on “Do More with NINAuth”, select “NIN Slip” from the available options and complete the facial authentication process to confirm their identity.
After successful verification, users can click on “Download NIN Slip” to generate and save the official document directly to their devices.
The commission stressed that the service is completely free, warning Nigerians that they do not need to pay third-party agents to obtain their NIN slips through the platform.
“Once verified, click on ‘Download NIN Slip’ to generate and save the official NIMC-issued NIN slip into your mobile phone,” the commission explained.
“It is that simple, it is free, available, and a few taps away. Get yours today,” it added.
NIMC said the initiative was designed to make access to the identification document easier, while reducing unnecessary visits to its enrolment centres.
The NINAuth platform was launched in October 2025 to give Nigerians greater control over how their personal information is accessed by government agencies, banks, telecommunications companies and educational institutions.
In June 2026, the commission announced that NIN holders could also download their official slips through the application at no cost.
The downloaded slip is the same official document issued by NIMC and can be presented at banks, government offices and other institutions where the identification document is required.
The National Identification Number is an 11-digit unique identification number issued to Nigerians and legal residents after successful registration.
It is used to establish and verify individuals’ identities and link their personal information to the National Identity Database.
However, those who have yet to enrol for their NIN must visit an NIMC registration centre, provide their personal details and undergo biometric capturing, including fingerprint and facial scans, before receiving their identification number.
