Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has been thrown into mourning following the death of her husband, Mr Anthony Adeniyi ‘Niyi’ Adeosun, at the age of 62.
The Adeosun family announced the death of Niyi Adeosun, who passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, in Lagos.
The family, in a statement signed by Reverend C. A. Adeosun, said the deceased was a distinguished businessman, devoted Christian and family man whose life was marked by integrity, generosity and service to God.
The statement said Niyi was surrounded by the love of his family and community throughout his life, adding that his death had left the family devastated.
“It is with profound sorrow, yet in total submission to the will of Almighty God, that the Adeosun family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and brother, Mr Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun, who was called home to glory on Wednesday, 5th August 2026, in Lagos.
“He was 62 years old.
“Niyi was a distinguished businessman and a devoted Christian whose integrity, generosity and steadfast faith touched the lives of all who knew him.
“He lived a life defined by hard work, service to God and an unwavering commitment to his family and community,” the family said.
Niyi is survived by his wife, Kemi Adeosun; their children; his siblings, including Mr Adewale ‘Wale’ Adeosun, founder of Kuramo Capital; as well as other relatives, friends and associates.
His death comes as a major personal loss to Kemi Adeosun, who has maintained a relatively private family life despite her years in the public spotlight.
Adeosun, an accountant and investment banker, served as Ogun State Commissioner for Finance between 2011 and 2015 before she was appointed Minister of Finance by former President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2015.
She resigned from the Federal Executive Council in September 2018 after serving for nearly three years. She later returned to public activities and has continued to contribute to discussions on economic policy and public finance.
The family described Niyi as a man whose impact extended beyond his immediate household, stressing that his faith, generosity and commitment to those around him would remain part of his legacy.
Quoting the Bible, the family said it was drawing strength from the Christian belief that those who die in the Lord would rest from their labours and that their good works would endure.
The bereaved family has appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to respect its privacy as it comes to terms with the loss.
It said funeral and Christian burial arrangements would be announced at a later date.
The family also expressed appreciation to those who had reached out with prayers, condolences and support following the death.
The statement ended with a prayer for the deceased, saying: “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the Lord.”
