Two members of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, have been arrested in Borno State for their part in terrorism in the area.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, Maj Gen Markus Kangye, passed this information on Thursday, during a press briefing in Abuja where he laid bare recent military operations across the country from July 9 to 16, 2025.
Kangye who gave the names of the NURTW members as Isah Abdullahi and Abdullahi Mohammed, said they were caught in the course of transporting military uniforms and equipment to terrorists.
“Two members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers identified as Isah Abdullahi and Abdullahi Mohammed were arrested in Liya, Biu LG of Borno State, while receiving waybills from a truck driver, which corresponded with intelligence received earlier on the said consignment.
“The items include 13 pairs of military uniforms and some high-voltage batteries amongst others,” he said.
He reports that the troops also arrested another terrorist’s logistics supplier known as Shaibu Bulama, 65 years old, at Damasak Motor Park in Yobe State on July 13, 2025.
“Some quantities of arms and ammunition were also recovered. They also retrieved and safely detonated some IEDs, while the sum of N17,150,000 was also recovered,” he said.
Kangye added that four adult females and 12 children, all members of terrorist families, surrendered to troops in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
“As a result of sustained military operations in the Northeast theatre, 16 family members of terrorists, including four adult females and 12 children, surrendered to troops in Bama LG on July 14, 2025.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the group surrendered from Bakura Jega village,” he remarked.
