A self-styled pastor, Kehinde Makinde, popularly known as Pastor Kenny, has landed in police custody over allegations that he defrauded 18 fellowship members of about N2.5m in Ogun State.
Makinde was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, after allegedly luring the victims with a fake government-sponsored pilgrimage to Jerusalem and promising each of them N2m.
The suspect was also accused of allegedly exploiting unsuspecting people across Ogun, Oyo and Osun states under the guise of performing spiritual deliverance.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the arrest in a statement made available to journalists on Monday.
According to the police, Makinde was apprehended on August 3, 2026, at about 4:45pm in Ibadan following four months of intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance by detectives attached to the Obantoko Division.
Police investigations reportedly uncovered the alleged N2.5m scheme involving the 18 fellowship members in Saje, Adatan.
The victims were allegedly made to believe that the pastor was arranging a government-backed pilgrimage to Jerusalem, with each participant expected to receive N2m.
Beyond the alleged pilgrimage scam, the police said investigations linked Makinde to a wider pattern of alleged manipulation of people seeking spiritual deliverance across three states.
The command said the suspect remains in custody as detectives intensify efforts to uncover more alleged victims and track down possible accomplices.
The police urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to the suspect to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation.
