From flaunting a glamorous lifestyle on social media to allegedly becoming the Nigerian arrowhead of a multi-billion-naira cocaine cartel, the world of self-styled luxury dealer and influencer Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as “KC Luxury,” has been thrown into the spotlight following his arrest by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The suspect was allegedly arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while attempting to flee the country on a business-class flight to Paris.

His arrest followed a major breakthrough by the NDLEA in its investigation into an international cocaine trafficking syndicate allegedly using Nigeria as a transit route to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), disclosed the development while addressing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

According to Marwa, the investigation began after NDLEA operatives intercepted a massive 184.50kg consignment of cocaine concealed for onward export through a courier logistics channel in Lagos.

The seizure, described by the agency as the largest cocaine haul intercepted in a courier company in Nigeria, reportedly had an estimated street value of about N39 billion.

Alarmed by the scale of the consignment, Marwa ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team to trace the shipment beyond the couriers and identify the masterminds allegedly controlling the operation.

The investigation led to the arrest of two key suspects, including Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics company through which the cocaine was allegedly processed.

Kehinde was reportedly found to have maintained a direct relationship with the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator. Investigators alleged that he packaged and processed consignments for the syndicate and routed them to the UK, Europe and Asia in return for cash payments.

But the investigation eventually zeroed in on Afolabi, the man the agency described as the Nigerian arrowhead of the cartel.

According to the NDLEA, Afolabi had presented himself publicly as a businessman dealing in gold, jewellery and luxury goods, while allegedly operating behind the scenes as a key player in a cocaine trafficking pipeline stretching from South America through Nigeria to destinations in Europe and Asia.

The glamorous image allegedly associated with his social media presence has now become part of the agency’s investigation.

Marwa said the suspect was not arrested voluntarily.

He disclosed that intelligence indicated that Afolabi was planning to escape Nigeria on a business-class flight to Paris.

NDLEA operatives allegedly moved in on the night of August 13, 2026, catching him at the airport boarding gate before he could leave the country.

At the time of his arrest, the agency said he was found with €7,750, £2,800 and N100,000 in cash, alongside expensive jewellery.

The NDLEA subsequently searched his luxury apartment in Banana Island, Ikoyi, where exotic vehicles were recovered.

A video posted on the Facebook page of NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, showed the suspect behind the wheel of an expensive vehicle, offering a glimpse into the lavish lifestyle allegedly linked to the man now at the centre of a major drug investigation.

The agency said the cartel went to considerable lengths to conceal its operations, allegedly using false identities to disguise the real consignors of drug shipments and financial facilitators to move billions of naira on its behalf.

According to Marwa, the investigation also uncovered criminal links in the United Kingdom, where some alleged members of the syndicate have reportedly been arrested by British authorities.

The NDLEA boss described the operation as one of the agency’s most significant recent narcotics investigations and warned drug traffickers that wealth, influence and glamorous lifestyles would not protect them from arrest.

He also revealed that the latest breakthrough formed part of a wider campaign against transnational drug networks.

Among the operations he cited was the dismantling of the Switzerland-based Simon Amadi drug cartel, which allegedly laundered millions of dollars through dark-web marketplaces, as well as the takedown of two Nigerian-Mexican methamphetamine syndicates operating clandestine laboratories in forests in Ogun and Oyo states.

Marwa said the latest operation had also exposed a new strategy being adopted by international drug trafficking organisations.

According to him, traffickers are increasingly moving away from seaports and airports, where security scrutiny has intensified, and turning to courier and logistics companies which they believe offer less-monitored routes.

But the NDLEA chairman said the arrest of Afolabi demonstrated that the agency was capable of tracking traffickers regardless of where they attempted to hide.

He warned those who allegedly hide behind luxury brands, social media fame and extravagant lifestyles while trafficking illicit drugs that they would eventually be exposed.

Marwa further commended the agency’s international partners and members of the Special Investigation Team for their role in dismantling the syndicate.

He described the near-simultaneous arrests of suspected cartel members in Nigeria and the UK as a significant achievement in international cooperation.

The NDLEA said investigations are continuing as operatives work to uncover other members of the alleged network, its financial channels and its international connections.

The agency also reiterated its commitment to preventing Nigeria from being used as a transit route for illicit drugs destined for other parts of the world.
