Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that he once prevented a Nigerian soldier from raping a pro-Biafra during the civil war.
Obasanjo disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja at an event held to commemorate 50 years of the declaration of an independent state of Biafra by the late Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu on May 30, 1967.

The former President was the Commander, Third Marine Commando Division, and was the military officer who accepted the surrender of Biafran forces on January 12, 1970, after three years of war
Speaking on the war at the event tagged, “Biafra, 50 years After” Obasanjo said some of those agitating for Biafra today, lack an understanding of what it entails.
While calling for dialogue with Biafran agitators, he recalled an incident he was involved in during the thirty months war.
“Even a soldier of mine who tried to rape a woman. I had to chase him with a gun. He did not succeed in raping the woman, and I did not have to gun him down,” he recalled.
