Dele Alake, the Special Adviser on Communications to President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has hinted that his principal may consider suing Chimamanda Adichie.
Chimamanda had in a letter to United States President, Joe Biden, in which she frowned on the government’s congratulations of Tinubu for his election as Nigeria’s President imputed drug peddling and bribery slurs to the former Lagos governor.
“Many believe that the INEC chair has been “compromised.
“…but there is no evidence of the astronomical U.S.-dollar amounts he is rumoured to have received from the president-elect. The extremely wealthy Tinubu is himself known to be an enthusiastic participant in the art of “compromising”; some Nigerians call him a “drug baron” because, in 1993, he forfeited to the United States government $460,000 of his income that a Chicago court determined to be proceeds from heroin trafficking,” the famous writer wrote.

In a rejoinder to the vague claim that Tinubu was a drug lord and bought his way to win the election, influencing the Independent National Electoral Commission chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, with money, Alake hinted that Chimamanda may face the legal consequence of her statement.
“Chimamanda will be lucky if she does not have to prove this weighty allegation in court,” the former Lagos commissioner retorted in a statement where he also justified his principal’s victory.
