The offer comes amid a spate of deadly accidents caused by vehicles driven by the elderly — a growing problem in a country where 4.8 million people aged 75 or older have a license, Agence France-Presse reported.
The report says those who relinquish their license will receive a certificate that will cut prices from 590 to 500 yen – about $5.20 to $4.43.
In March 2017, the country will require drivers aged 75 or older to pass cognitive tests when renewing their licenses.
