Flight operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, were thrown into chaos on Tuesday as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) commenced a protest that disrupted movement within the airport premises.
The industrial action, which began as early as 5am, saw the Zulu Terminal gate shut and placed under lock and key, preventing passengers and airport users from accessing the facility as scheduled.
Passengers booked on an Air Peace flight scheduled to depart Lagos at 6:30am were among those caught in the disruption, as they were left stranded while waiting for the situation to be resolved.
The unexpected blockade caused confusion and frustration among travellers, with some passengers expressing anger over the delay and uncertainty surrounding their journeys.
The NLC protest is part of the labour union’s wider push over workers’ grievances and national economic concerns, with members mobilising across different locations to press their demands.
The action disrupted normal activities at the airport, forcing travellers, airline officials and airport workers to grapple with the impact of the demonstration.
As of the time of filing this report, it was unclear when flight operations would fully resume at the affected terminal.
