The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has slammed a 16-hour curfew on 10 local government areas of the state around Old Oyo National Park over the abduction of pupils and teachers from Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities.
Bandits on May 16 kidnapped 46 people, seven of whom are teachers while 39 are pupils including toddlers.
While one of the teachers, Michael Oyedokun, a mathematics teacher was killed, another, Adesiyan Adegboye, an Assistant headmaster, was shot dead during the operation by the bandits who have held the victims hostage inside the Old Oyo National Park since the last 38 days.
A memo issued last night by Secretary to the State Government Prof. Musibau Babatunde announced the curfew on ten council areas around the forested Park, effective from today.
The curfew, which is between 4pm and 8am, will last for 48 hours in the first instance, affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park.
Those affected local governments are: Oriire; Orelope; Irepo; Saki West; Saki East; Atisbo; Itesiwaju; Iseyin; Olorunsogo; and Atiba.
