The federal government has expressed opposition to the plan by the Organised Labour to embark on two-day nationwide protest slated for February 27 and February 28, 2024 in consequence of economic hardship and insecurity bedevilling the country and her people.
The National President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, had on Friday announced the protest in Abuja.
It has, however, drawn the reaction of the government with the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris saying that industrial action is not the way out of the woods.
The Minister stated this among others, commenting: “What we can tell the NLC and TUC as always is that the Federal Government sees itself as a partner and not an adversary to Organised Labour. We are always calling on them to join hands with the government so that we can have a peaceful and prosperous country. We don’t want a situation where labour is always in a hurry to go on strike. Strikes do not solve problems.
“We appreciate their concerns and promise that the government will look into them. The Federal Government will always see labour as a partner because we are not in opposition to them. We need them just as they need us. Whenever it is necessary, we will meet with them. We can’t shy away from dialogue with them.”
