The controversy surrounding a purported federal agency has taken a fresh turn, with the Anambra State Government explaining how it became involved with the organisation now being questioned by authorities.

Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Chiamaka Nnake, said her involvement began with an official letter sent to Governor Chukwuma Soludo in January 2026.

According to Nnake, the letter came from an organisation identified as the Made-in-Nigeria Office, which claimed to operate under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The organisation reportedly asked the state to nominate a focal person to coordinate its activities in Anambra.

Following the request, Soludo nominated Nnake as the state’s focal person in February.

She said representatives nominated from the 36 states were subsequently added to a WhatsApp group where they discussed programmes and activities linked to the office.

The matter, however, took a dramatic turn after the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) reportedly uncovered the organisation as a purported fake federal agency.

The development sparked questions over how the organisation gained access to state governments and secured official attention.

Nnake, whose photograph had circulated in connection with the controversial office, has now moved to clear the air.

In a statement titled “Clarification on the ‘Made-in-Nigeria Agency’ and my role as State Focal Person,” she said she had no prior reason to doubt the authenticity of the organisation.

She explained that the same office later approached the Anambra Government to host the South-East Made-in-Nigeria Fair.

The request was approved by the state, after which an inaugural meeting was held about two weeks ago. Nnake said the meeting was attended by the purported national coordinator of the office.

Preparations subsequently commenced for the proposed fair, which was scheduled to take place in Anambra from December 2 to 5, 2026.

But the ICPC’s revelation about the purported agency has now thrown the arrangement into uncertainty.

Nnake insisted that her involvement was limited to the official activities communicated to her through the state government.

She said she had no knowledge of, involvement in or connection with any other activities, claims or developments attributed to the organisation.

The SSG stressed that anything beyond her nomination as focal person, participation in the WhatsApp group and involvement in preparations for the fair was completely outside her knowledge.

Her clarification came as the controversy continues to raise questions over the emergence of purported government agencies and how such bodies manage to engage public officials and institutions before their identities and mandates are properly verified.
