The Nigeria Police Force has created a money laundering unit in its fold.

Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this on Friday during the parade of some suspects arrested for various offences across the country at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Adejobi said the creation of the money laundering unit by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is to tackle financial crimes.

He stated that the unit will leverage the existing collaboration between the police and other anti-graft agencies to curb terrorism financing and international crimes.

He added that the police arrested 1,284 suspects in various operations across the country over the past six weeks.

The arrests, according to the spokesman, include 307 armed robbery suspects, 296 kidnapping suspects, 176 rape and defilement suspects, 301 homicide suspects, and 204 suspected cultists.
