The father of Nigerian singer Afunso Ridwan Abiola, better known as Rolex Dee, has reportedly died after collapsing over reports that his son was critically ill while in police detention.
The grieving family disclosed that the man suffered a health crisis after receiving news that the musician was allegedly vomiting blood in custody, following his arrest in connection with a dispute involving fellow artiste Taye Currency.
In a heartbreaking video recorded during the funeral ceremony, Rolex Dee’s mother revealed that her husband became distressed after learning about their son’s condition. She said the deceased had joined her efforts to plead with Taye Currency and other influential figures to help secure the singer’s release before his sudden collapse.
The singer’s arrest reportedly stemmed from a public disagreement and subsequent fallout between him and Taye Currency, though details surrounding the dispute and the circumstances of the detention remain unclear.
While mourning her husband, Rolex Dee’s mother made an emotional appeal to the police authorities and public figures to intervene, urging them to help free her son so he could receive urgent medical attention.
She lamented that the detained musician was unable to return home to bid his father farewell or attend his burial because he remained in police custody.
The family’s plea has sparked reactions from fans and supporters, who are calling for clarity on the singer’s condition and the circumstances surrounding his continued detention.
