In an expedient measure to make the military junta return power to President Mohamed Bazoum, the federal government has ceased its supply of electricity to the neighbouring Niger.

Recall that on Sunday the Economic Community of West African States rolled out a raft of sanctions against Niger to force the coupists out of power including threat of military action.

A firm in Nigeria, Mainstream Energy, for the supply of electricity has a power supply contract with Nigerien Electricity Company, with report saying about 60 percent of the country’s electricity are from Nigeria.

The latter, according to Agence France-Presse, AFP on Wednesday cut the French colony from its grid.

“Nigeria disconnected since yesterday (Tuesday) the high voltage line that carries electricity to Niger,” it quoted its source.
